A Moment Silence In A Noisy City

Walking through Amsterdam is great in itself, but at moments you wish everyone would be silent for a moment, giving you the possibility to ponder over things happening in your life, or just enjoying the view without the noise.

The Begijnhof is such a place, right in the heart of busy Amsterdam. A place with history, perfect for a photo-stop without having to worry that everyone else walks in front of YOUR camera.
But at the same time it is a place, where people when they enter the chapel, sit down and in thoughts go to their friends and relatives at home. Maybe far away, being a tourist or an international student in The Netherlands.

A place to close your eyes, shut out the world for a moment, and say a silent prayer.

For Catholics the place has a very special meaning (a place for pilgrimage), for others it may just be a quiet place to rest from their all day walk through this historic city. Whatever reason brings you there, God welcomes everyone, no matter what denomination or no denomination at all.

And yes, almost every American President of the last 50 years has been here, so don't forget to take your own picture here in front of the English Church.

Back to the Middle-Ages

Dreamed of being a knight? Ever wished you could have lived in those dark ages, seemingly romantic with all the builders of huge cathedrals? Or just wish you could go back to that time to have a peek who they did it, with all their labour, without machines, full of craftmanship?

Den Bosch ('S-Hertogenbosch) is such a city where you find yourself back in time, walking around the St. Jan, through small alleys, around the market, or just going by boat around the city.
It is the perfect city for a walk, hand-in-hand, enjoying all these old buildings, the hospitality of the people, enjoy local food, or go for a solemn moment into the St.Jan (Especially in the may month, the month of Mary).

And DON'T leave without having tasted the Bossche Bol. It tastes heavenly I can assure you. The whipped cream inside, the chocolate on top. Many have tried to immitate it, but there is no place on earth where it tastes like in Den Bosch.
